The students appearing in Haute Plate represent a typical class at the San Diego Culinary Institute. In fact, the class that was chosen to appear in the show was chosen almost at random: based on the production schedule and the deadlines for the show, the producers selected this group of students because it was the only class in finals during the period slated for shooting the show.
